Superintendent's Message

Thank you to Ms. McNally, who captured this image of Enzo, a first grader in Ms. Cervoni's class, greeting me with a firm handshake and great eye contact. A simple, yet important skill. Nice job, Enzo!

Happy Mother's Day!

On this special day, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all the moms in our community and on our staff. Your strength and unwavering support for your family make an incredible difference in the lives of children, and I hope you feel celebrated and appreciated today and always.

Morgan’s Message - Mental Health Awareness Month

As you may be aware, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In recognition of the importance of awareness around mental health issues amongst athletes, the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team held their annual Morgan’s Message game. Morgan's Message is a foundation that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. Their goal is to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone. The team also held a bake sale and car wash with all proceeds going to support Morgan’s Message. Through their efforts on and off the field, the team continues to be a powerful voice in the student-athlete community. We are so proud of our athletes who continue to serve as role models for our entire community.

LIU Band Festival

Seven talented musicians from the Harborfields High School Wind Ensemble recently participated in the 17th Annual LIU Post Band Festival, which featured music by renowned composer Randall Standridge. The following students were nominated by their band director, Ms. Scilla, and selected to perform with the Tilles Festival band:

  • Marty Bernstein - Trombone

  • Kyleigh Connors - Trumpet

  • Anna Dezlic - Flute

  • Jacob Guzzardo - Alto Saxophone

  • Hartley Semmes - Trumpet

  • Andrew Walden - Trombone

  • Ethan Wisoky - French Horn

Congratulations to this year’s LIU Post Band Festival selectees from Harborfields!

Honoring Our Senior Athletes and Their Families

As a proud parent of a high school senior myself, the recognition of our senior athletes at their “senior games” is all the more special to me.  These simple recognitions acknowledge the long journey our athletes and their families have traveled to get to this point.  Congratulations to our senior athletes and their families.

HR Alumni Qualifies for PGA Tournament

2018 Harborfields graduate, Andre Chi, has qualified for the PGA at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina. After graduating from high school, Andre went on to play in college, where he won the Division III national championship. Congratulations, Andre, we’re all rooting for you!

Free Yoga for MS & HS Students

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week, the Huntington Youth Bureau is excited to partner with the Yoga Foundation to offer a free yoga session for middle and high school students on Friday, May 16th.  Yoga is a great way to support mental and physical health. It can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and concentration, and promote relaxation and overall well-being—perfect for students navigating busy school lives. Important School Calendar Reminder

As indicated on the school calendar, schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday, May 23rd, barring any unforeseen closure before then.

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:

Harborfields High School

At an awards ceremony hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council, three Harborfields High School students were recognized for their efforts and dedication to interconnecting generations and communities. Joshua Krief, Phoebe Xidas, and Sara Tovar-Guacaneme received the Student Building Bridges Award for the work each of them have done to create a more civil society. Please join us in congratulating Josh, Phoebe, and Sara!

Oldfield Middle School
Students in Mr. Temps' Industrial Design class researched important inventions and built models of them. Click the picture below and swipe through the photos to see how students recreated a bridge, a record player, a radio and headphones, and even eyeglasses!

Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School:
The sounds of the orchestra, band, chorus, and recorder club filled the high school auditorium during the fifth-grade spring concert. The four groups performed a variety of pieces, including some well-known songs from movies and pop culture. Bravo to our talented young musicians and their dedicated teachers!

Washington Drive Primary School:
Second graders hopped on the bus and headed to TJL for third-grade orientation! They explored the building, learned about the amazing programs and opportunities ahead, and met the teachers and staff who will guide them starting in the fall. But the best part? Seeing the smiles as siblings spotted each other in the halls and Washington Drive teachers reunited with their now grown-up former students!
