It's a Wonderful Time of Year!
This time of year is marked by the changing (and falling) leaves, shortening daylight, and crisp fall weather. It is also a time of great excitement in our schools. At the high school, many of our future Class of 2026 graduates are putting their final touches on their college applications, and some will soon start to receive their acceptance letters. There is also a buzz about the athletic postseason, where many of our varsity teams are advancing into the playoffs. Go Tornadoes!
I continue to be so proud of our students, staff, coaches, and advisors for their tireless sense of service. Pictured below, our middle school field hockey team raised funds to support breast cancer awareness.

Superintendent’s Spotlight – New Playgrounds at WDPS & TJL
Each month, student programs are spotlighted at our monthly Board of Education meeting. While not exactly a program, this month we highlighted exciting new additions to Washington Drive and Thomas J. Lahey as a result of our capital project work – their playgrounds. I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch the video below. I am so grateful to the members of our school community who dedicated their time to make these playgrounds a possibility!

Harlem Wizards
Students at Washington Drive and Thomas J. Lahey had tons of fun during an interactive assembly with the Harlem Wizards! Don’t forget to buy your tickets and come out to see the Harlem Wizards take the court on November 14 at 7 PM. Be part of a memorable evening and support the PTA while you’re at it!

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:
Harborfields High School
Students in Mr. Kouroutis's 9th-grade Global History classes curated their very own unique Egyptian artifact box, explaining the significance of their chosen objects, symbols, and quotes in a detailed journal. The project culminated in a "Museum Walk" where students became the historians, sharing their knowledge with their peers.
 Oldfield Middle School
The Garden Club went back to work beautifying the OMS Native Garden. Students weeded, planted over 30 new native plants, and learned the reasons to “leave the leaves.”
Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School Students learned all about sportsmanship from Mr. Merc, Dr. Broems, Ms. SanFilippo, and Dr. Horowitz, and how it extends beyond the field to the classroom, the playground, and everyday life! A special shout-out to this month’s Lahey Lions, who were recognized for exemplifying the Lion’s “Mane” Mission through their positive actions.
 Washington Drive Primary School
Mrs. Harley’s second graders took their learning outdoors, making the most of the beautiful fall weather. Students enjoyed reading and working together in the outdoor classroom. A perfect setting for creativity and collaboration!
